Prescription Solutions, a pharmacy benefits management company based in Irvine, plans to hire 450 temporary and full-time workers in July for prescription-solutionsits Costa Mesa office, a company spokesman confirms.

David Himmel says about 360 of the new hires will be temporary customer service representatives. They will work with doctors offices and health plan members on Medicare prescription drug benefits.

The temp jobs will last four to eight months. However, Himmel says 10% to 20% of the company's temporary workers typically end up with full-time jobs.

Prescription Solutions also is looking to bring on about 90 other full-time workers, including pharmacy technicians and pharmacists.

The company has a long history in Orange County.  Founded in 1992, it was part of PacifiCare Health Systems before the Cypress-based HMO was bought by UnitedHealth Group four years ago.

Prescription Solutions has about 4,000 employees nationwide, including 1,200 in Orange County.

The company is not accepting applications yet and will not accept any applications in person. Himmel said applicants should wait until the jobs are posted online. Potential applicants are referred to UnitedHealth's Web site.  Himmel says the jobs also will be advertised on other online jobs Web sites.

This is great news after UHG laid off about 80 people in the Cypress office. Hopefully there will be more hiring in the near future.

UHGis a place to gain experience but not to hang for the long term. They didn't give a pay raise this year. After the temps are hired, they will be let go.
