Public library staff in Newport Beach say increasing numbers of job seekers are using the library's public computers and fax machines. They're also increasingly turning to the library's books on resume writing, career development materials, and database information related to job searches.
In response, the library offers one-on-one assistance and has scheduled two job-search workshops:
In answer to this rising need, the Newport Beach Public Library is offering two public training classes to be held at the Central Library in upcoming weeks: “Online Job Searching” on Tuesday, March 31, and “Resumes and Cover Letters” on Tuesday, April 7. Both classes will be held from 2 -4 p.m. in the Friends Meeting Room at the Central Library. Reservations are not required.
The Newport Beach Public Library also offers one-on-one training by appointment and small group training on a variety of topics ranging from learning basic Internet skills to specific areas of Internet research. In addition to the computer training classes, the library offers a wealth of free resources for job seekers, including information on careers, exam prep books, newspapers and magazines, business reference databases, free WiFi, laptop computers for use in the library, and the expertise of reference librarians to assist in finding pertinent information.
